The racketlon,

what is it?

Racketlon is a sport that combines the 4 most popular racket sports: table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis.

This sport comes to us from the cold. It was in fact the countries of northern Europe that were at the origin of the first meetings. The Finns created a game format under the name of "Mailapelit" (Racket Games) and organized a first competition in 1986 in Helsinki. Their Swedish neighbors, under the impetus of Peter Landberg, imitated them with a similar formula in 1989.

The success was immediate with 200 players from the second edition the following year. The "racketlon" took off and the first official rules were codified. Thus the counting of points with 4 rounds of 21 points in the four sports was adopted in 1994.

Rules of racketlon

A racketlon match is played in 4 sets of 21 points (tie-break mode and 2-point difference), in each of the following sports and in this order: table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis (from the smallest racket to the largest).

The winner is the player with the most points at the end of the 4 rounds.

In the event of a tie at the end of the 4 sports, the "Gummi-Arm" (translated from Swedish as "little arm") comes into play. This decisive point is played in tennis with a single service ball. (www.racketlon.fr)
